I have been an advocate of classroom technology integration since I began my education career over 18 years ago with Kings Canyon Unified School District in Fresno County. As a classroom teacher, I worked with my principal and colleagues to explore the potential of computers in the classroom, wrote technology grants, and became one of the first “telementors” in the Central Valley. Later, as a high school learning director and a middle school principal, I continued to diligently secure grants, budgeted for the purchase and maintenance of technology for classrooms and developed and facilitated professional development for teachers throughout the district to effectively incorporate its use in the curriculum. I believe that a classroom teacher who uses instructional strategies to integrate technology-based resources makes technology a powerful tool for teaching and learning. Without the teacher’s vision, knowledge, and practice, technology is nothing but equipment and cable sitting in the classroom. I now serve as a Coordinator of School Improvement for Fresno County Office of Education and am involved in Region 7 CTAP oversight activities as well. I am willing to make the long-term commitment to serve on the Board of Directors and believe that my many years of experience as a “computer-using educator” in the classroom, as a principal, and now county office, can be of benefit to the organization. I am eager to be part of the CUE board, a dynamic team that is committed to the realization of the full potential of technology in the classroom. |
