Otto BenavidesDirector/Associate Professor California State University, Fresno Clovis, CA Affiliate Nominated | listen to interview In my role of Director of the Instructional Technology and Resource Center and Associate Professor at the Kremen School of Education and Human Development, I have had the opportunity to teach technology skills and integration of technology courses to pre-service and in-service. Other courses taught include technology planning for school administrators. I have been a long-standing advocate for the integration of technology in the curriculum. Professionally, I have been involved in several regional, national and international organizations to promote the use of technology in the teaching-learning process. I moved to California from Memphis, Tennessee in 1990. I worked at the University of Memphis as an Assistant Professor at the College of Education where I was responsible for technology planning at the Center of Excellence in Teacher Education. My assignment included teaching audiovisual and other instructional technology courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. Prior to my employment at the University of Memphis I was an Instructional Designer and Assistant Director at the Media Center at Shelby State Community College. I taught TV Production and audiovisual courses in the two-year associate degree programs. During my professional career I have been heavily involved in community service. As a result, I received a Community Service Award in Human Relation Efforts from the National Conference of Christians and Jews in 1988. I was President of the Memphis Council for International Visitors. In 1997 I became a a member of the Computer Educational Advisory Panel appointed by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. In 1999 I was recognized as an Apple Distinguished Educator. In 2000, I was honored as a Laureate by the Smithsonian Institution Computerworld Award Program. I was a member of the State CTAP Staff Development Technology Proficiency Committee. I am currently a member of the Advisory Board of the California Learning Resource Network, Past-President of the Board of Directors of the Association for Educational Communications and Technology International Division and Chairman of the Steering Committee of the International Student Media Festival (ISMF). More recently, I was elected to the Executive Committee of the International Council for Educational Media – ICEM based in Vienna, Austria. I would love to contribute my experience and expertise to CUE as an elected member of the Board of Directors. |
