Advancing Student Achievement Through Technology

The reality is, on the whole, we are losing the battle. We are, in so many ways, in danger of slipping into a similar situation as America's car manufacturers, unable to innovate, adjust and become lean machines of productivity. What is one major hold up? California Ed Code. Here's my CUE vision: CUE needs to be the engine that drives needed legislative changes required to bring dynamic change to the California Educational system. Want some examples? Have you seen UEN.org? It's Utah's state-wide resource for educators...but where does California Ed Code come in? At the bottom of the page it says, "UEN does not endorse and is not responsible for content on external websites linked to from this page". California's Ed Code doesn't allow for this flexibility and therefore, our state has been crippled. Another great tool, "Into the Book", developed by the Wisconsin Education Communications Board, at which teachers use instructional technology to teach children comprehension skills has no California equivalent. Why is there no California-based equivalent? Why can't http://www.cde.ca.gov/ls/ have a link to these amazing resources? To quote my former CTAP 7 office mate, "You don't know what you don't know". How do we get CDE to know? CUE will work with CTA, CLMS/HS, CETPA and all the other relevant ed-tech groups to get California Ed code updated. All over this great state we are fighting the same battles, alone and in small groups. Let us band together and work with legislators to remove arcane California Ed Code so that we all may work together in a state of the art workplace. My name is Jon Corippo. I've been a classroom teacher in giant districts and tiny ones. I've developed classroom TV stations for middle schoolers with literally no budget. I've trained thousands of teachers as a CTAP 7. I've been the National Rural Technology Teacher of the Year, gathered thousands of dollars in prizes and helped administer the Slick Rock Student Film Festival, and been very active with local CVCUE events. I'm currently the Instructional Tech Coordinator for a brand new High School with a one to one Macbook program. For more information about me. Elect me and CUE advocacy will be job one. |
