TECHNOLOGY LEADERS SEMINAR:
A21 :: School Site Technology Leaders Resource Forum
A21 :: School Site Technology Leaders Resource Forum
Tim Landeck, Doug Prouty
This is a presentation and discussion about the various aspects of site-level technology leadership. A positive and productive look at the difficulties and solutions to the many hurdles that technology leaders are faced with including tech support, professional development, curriculum integration and other coordination issues. A time to learn from others in your field about what works and what resources are available to help you manage the many tasks presented to you on a daily basis.
A technology leader’s job description varies greatly depending on the site, the responsibilities of the particular position, and the school community. Many school sites are creating technology leader positions to help with technology implementation and training at the site level. These positions often take effect during a release period during a teachers’ busy daily schedule or as a part time position. Sometimes a teacher is awarded a stipend to create another job (technology coordinator) after school because of their demonstrated love of technology. Unfortunately, this position is added onto their already full-time position. Teachers feel so honored to be asked, that they do not say no, they just have “add-on-itis” and do more than they realistically can do. In addition, this can be an isolating position with little or no outside support.
Education Technology leadership is a field that has required site-based leaders to make it up as they go along. Although every situation is unique, there are many mistakes and successes that technology leaders can share with each other to help smooth the path to true technology integration and implementation. The wheel has been invented several times over. A session like this helps to share lessons-learned and best practices. We need to encourage risk-taking, yet be willing to take risks without worrying about certain consequences. In this session, we will provide guidelines in developing a support team and champions.
This session will focus on strategies and approaches for keeping afloat the technology at just about any educational institution. We will investigate the expectations placed on technology leaders and the realistic abilities of people in these positions. We will look at approaches to help the site technology leader attain the overwhelming task of organizing, delegating, and facilitating effective technology implementation. We will close by identifying some of the many resources available to technology leaders. So join us for an interactive session with opportunities to learn from each other and walk away with tools you can use to make your job more manageable and successful.
Come spend a great day led by a technology leader that has, “been there and done that.” We will become a support network for each other as everyone shares what is working at their site. The interaction and contributions of your peers makes for powerful energy and a very unique workshop. Numerous and varied door prizes provided.
