Assistive Technology Hands-on Workshop
Assistive Technology (AT) At Your Fingertips in Your Classroom

Assistive Technology (AT) can open the doors of knowledge acquisition for students with special needs. The resources may be as close as your classroom computer or as innovative as special software. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the world of assistive technology so that they can bring it to their classroom and districts for implementation for students. Participants will:

Learn the policies and procedures for implementation of AT in classrooms.
Learn about easy AT applications found in the classroom computer.
Be introduced to reading intervention software applications and ways to support reading across the curriculum.
Explore a variety of strategies that make the writing process fund for students and teachers.
Each participant will receive a Get a Grip Toolkit to use in their classroom.

Lunch is not included.

Search, learn, share! Brought to you by the producers of the Google Teacher Academy, this seminar introduces participants to innovative ways Google tools can be used in education. A full day of fast-paced presentations and hands-on activities includes experience with advanced search techniques, collaborative web-based applications, and inspirational instructional strategies. Google Certified Teachers will share the ways they've implemented tools such as Google Docs, Google Earth, Google Sites, and... even more. Participants who complete the event will be given access to the Google Learning Network (GLN), an online group focused on supporting educators as they learn more about the power of Google to drive student learning. CUE is an official Google Professional Development partner.

Educational Potential of Second Life and Virtual Environments (BYOL)

A group of educators scattered over the world are meeting frequently in a virtual environment called Second Life. Come get hands-on to see why, how, and "where". This workshop will offer educators who are in Second Life a chance to meet and share. To those new to Virtual Environments, it will provide opportunities to dialogue with experienced Second Lifers and benefit from their research and resources.

You finally have a Document Camera! Now even those visual learners in the back row can view every detail of everything you do - up close and in 3D! Make every book a BIG book! Show kids how to read a protractor, and how to fold that origami - on the big screen! Or better yet, let a STUDENT show the rest of the class! When paired with a multimedia projector, a document camera replaces your aging overhead and opaque projectors with functions like zooming and e-storage so you can capture graphics and video from today's lesson and put them on your website. You can even attach a microscope, annotate the images, and save them for student projects! Just imagine what you'll be able to model for your English Language learners, or any challenging group of students, and what projects they can share with the entire class! This workshop will share ideas from many grade levels, disciplines, and learning styles.

CUE Lead Learner
This workshop will explore productivity tools, educational activities, teacher observations and more, using built-in and freely available applications. We'll include updates on educational institutions that are leading in iPhone development and innovative uses. New York Times columnist David Pogue describes the iPhone as the first widespread pocket desktop computer. You're witnessing the birth of a third major computer platform: Windows, Mac OS X, iPhone. Don t miss out on this innovative workshop. Teachers, administrators, IT professionals, technology coordinators are welcome. Intermediate, Advanced.
