- ANNOUNCING SPEAK UP EVENT 2005 -
CUE is proud to join NetDay in supporting the third annual Speak Up event. This fall we invite both teachers and students to take the online Speak Up survey to contribute to a national dialogue about technology use and needs and the development of 21st century skills.
The goal of Speak Up events is both to gather national data and to encourage participants to use their data to inform local decision-making. NetDay grants schools and districts access to their aggregate data through a password-protected website to encourage them to consider stakeholder views on technology and 21st century skills.
The online survey will be open October 21 November 18, 2005. Schools and districts can register for the event now.
Past participants have used their data to inform technology decisions and purchases, to learn how to best provide instruction to today's tech-savvy students, to plan for teacher training, and to stimulate discussion about key technology issues in their communities. Speak Up data contributed to the U.S. Department of Education's “National Education Technology Plan” and the “Visions 2020.2 Student Voices” joint report with the U.S. Department of Commerce. (See both the plan and the report at www.nationaledtechplan.org)
To “Speak Up” students and teachers can access the survey from any Internet-connected computer with their school's secret word.
- The online survey will be available for review in advance along with lesson plans and other helpful support materials.
- For your convenience, this year we've added functionality to allow for an entire district to register with just a few clicks.
- Go to www.NetDay.org to learn about previous Speak Up Events. More information about this year’s event will be posted soon.
If you have any questions about the 2005 Speak Up Event, please let me know at irene@netday.org.

- Board Nominations -
A message from Harvey Barnett, former CUE Board President
For six years it was my pleasure to serve on the CUE Board of Directors. As chair of the nominating committee, I invite all CUE members to consider running for the Board. CUE is a membership organization overseen by its’ members. The Board provides vision and direction for the Executive Director to implement. As a member of CUE YOU are eligible to run for the Board of Directors. The nomination process is relatively simple and painless. Check out http://www.cue.org/nomination/ for the specifics for being nominated. Be a part of the CUE team, join the Board and help to make CUE grow and prosper. I’ll be looking for your name when the nominations committee meets. Have a question or concern? Contact me at harveybarnett@,mac.com.
