The Next Google Teacher Academy Now Accepting Applications

June 12, 2012

Walnut Creek, Calif., June 12, 2012 – For educators looking to impact their classrooms in a unique and remarkable way, Computer-Using Educators (CUE), Inc. announced that the next Google Teacher Academy (GTA) is accepting applications for its October event in New York City.Danny Silva, Google Teacher Academy

Produced by CUE, the free Google Teacher Academy is an intense, two-day conference during which participants receive personal instruction in Google tools and learn how to incorporate those products in their classrooms or school sites. Upon completing the academy, educators are considered “Google Certified Teachers” or GCTs and are given resources to use at their schools, access to Google’s online community as well as additional opportunities to share and learn with other GTA alumni.

According to Tia Lendo, educating marketing manager at Google, “The two days of the GTA are some of the most special days of the year for me and our whole education team. At the beginning of the 36 hours the participants are a set of individuals doing great work to harness technology for education. But by the end, they are part of a powerful network of hundreds of alumni who support each other as they support the development of entire classes, schools, and education systems around the world.”

Danny Silva, CUE’s professional development coordinator, calls the Google Teacher Academy “an amazing example of how innovative educators motivate and inspire students and how a few teachers can make a huge impact. One question we ask the new GCTs is if they are ready to change the world. If they weren’t before, they quickly become the teachers to look to for inspiration in their schools, districts, states and around the world. They take their newfound knowledge of all things Google and share that knowledge.”

GTA looks for energetic and passionate educators who care about using the best and latest technological advances in their classrooms. Impacting students is the primary focus, and only 50 of the best educators from around the world will be considered for the program. The deadline for submissions is July 29, 2012, and all information regarding the application requirements is available online.
