Administrators - Harness the Power of Media on Nov. 7

Harnessing the Power of Media in Today’s Classrooms
Hall Davidson, Director, Discovery Educator Network
Wednesday, November 7, 2007
9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Santa Clara Convention Center
DOWNLOAD REGISTRATION FORM

Part of the reason video games are so popular with youth is that visual images stimulate the brain in ways that traditional print does not. Thanks to the Internet it is now possible to access content standard’s based media using technology that is already available in most every school. Join Hall Davidson, director of the Discovery Educator Network, and learn how students can access standards based video content and then use it to create their own content. In this hands-on workshop participants will learn by doing. Bring your laptop! (Computers will also be available for those traveling “laptop-less.”) Once administrators understand how standards based media can be accessed and created, then they can be the gatekeepers and encouragers of classroom practice that utilizes these strategies to engage students.

Special Event at NECC 2006

Image provided by Peter ReynoldsHave you heard of Geocaching? It's a great fun activity where players hide treasure chests called "caches". Using a GPS receiver, they take the coordinates of the cache and post them to the Internet (at geocaching.com). Then, other players plug these coordinates into their own GPS and go and seek them! More than a fun hobby, geocaching is quickly turning into a worldwide craze. This year, for the first time, geocaching will have a presence at this year's NECC conference. A booth will be set up to introduce teachers to the sport, there will be GPS devices available to borrow.

As was done at the CUE Conference, special caches will be placed near the convention center for players to find. There will be prizes and give-aways. In addition there will be 2 geocaching session to learn how geocaching might be used in eduction. The 2 sessions are on July 4th  which is a 3 hour, hands on lab and July 7th is a shorter 1 hour intro session. It will be held in CUE's California Gold room, along with a dozen other exciting presentations.

Come SEEK us out and FIND out what it's all about. Geocaching at NECC!
July 5-7th in San Diego

Volunteer and receive a reduced registration and fabulous incentives!
