Your assistance is needed! On June 9, 2009, the Governor implemented the Free Digital Textbook Initiative (FDTI) making it possible for educators to access and download free high school math and science textbooks that align to the California Content Standards. The California Learning Resource Network (CLRN) reviews and determines the extent to which digital textbooks align to the Standards and then posts the information on the CLRN Website. Educators can go to CLRN to determine which standards-aligned digital textbooks are available.  This survey is to determine familiarity and use of the digital textbook program by California schools. Your completion of this survey will help to determine the value and make improvements in the digital textbook initiative.

During the CUE General Session on March 7, 2008, CUE recognized several extraordinary educators and leaders.

CUE member Doug Prouty passed away on March 12, 2008, following a heroic two year battle with cancer. Doug succeeded in regaining enough stamina to attend the 2008 CUE Conference, and was a joy to all who interacted with him during the three days he was in Palm Springs.

Doug served CUE in many capacities. He was an active member of the EBCUE affiliate and was also on the EBCUE Board of Directors. He was a popular and entertaining presenter at the CUE Conferences. For many years, he and Tim Landeck led the Technology Coordinators SIG. In 2005, he was elected to the CUE Board of Directors where he served until he stepped down to focus on his health. He was a contributor to the OnCUE journal and continued writing through the Spring 08 issue.

Doug made a triumphant stand in his battle with cancer; not unlike his tenacious passion for the impact that technology can have on student achievement. The CUE community mourns this loss with his family, and celebrates his life and contributions to our mission.

CUE is proud to announce the promotion of Marisol Valles, CUE's Conference Manager, to the new position of Director of Operations of Computer-Using Educators.

Mrs. Valles began at CUE in 2003 as a Conference Coordinator, but was quickly promoted to Conference Manager later that year as CUE leadership recognized her wonderful customer service and expertise in managing CUE events. She has managed all aspects of the CUE Conference since our return to Palm Springs, in addition to Human Resources and other management duties. The new role of Director of Operations will incorporate additional management duties and roles beyond the Annual CUE Conference.

Mrs. Valles has said that she's "excited to have the opportunity to continue and grow with CUE." Mike Lawrence, CUE's Executive Director, said that he "looks forward to seeing Marisol excel at her new role at CUE, and I congratulate her on this important step forward."

Computer-Using Educators (CUE, Inc.) and the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) announced today a partnership to develop a clear vision for technology’s role in bringing results in student achievement. Towards this end, they are jointly presenting two events in 2007. The partnership's first activity will be the Leadership Summit at the Annual CUE Conference in Palm Springs on March 1. In November, the partnership will produce a a pre-conference event at the Annual ACSA Conference in November 2007.  more....

The CUE Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Terry Faherty, current Wine Country CUE affiliate president, to serve the remainder of Doug Prouty’s term of office on the Board.

Terry has a long history in Educational Technology and for the last nine years, has been a Curriculum Technology Coach at Napa Valley Unified School district and was a founding member of Wine Country CUE. Terry has eighteen years of classroom experience, and brings a clear vision of collaboration and partnership for CUE’s future.

I encourage you to congratulate Terry on this appointment and wish her well in her service to CUE.

Terry will begin her duties beginning at our May Board of Directors meeting and serve through July 2008.

You may have noticed a truck collecting electronic waste out behind the CUE Conference in Palm Springs. AERC Recycling Solutions was contracted to collect CUE member e-waste at the conference. Now that the conference is over, AERC is also offering their services to member school sites. AERC can come out to your school sites throughout the state and collect e-waste that has been piling up.

CUE is proud to announce the candidates for the CUE Board of Directors. The election will take place ONLINE only, and we ask that all CUE members log in to www.cue.org to verify their valid members-only login (email address) and password (click on the "Email Me New Password" button if you're not sure). Your membership expiration date will be displayed. It must expire after April 30, 2006 to be eligible to vote in this year's election. In January, the CUE Board received a hard-to-accept email from one of its own; board member Doug Prouty, who embodies the best of a Computer Using Educator, shared his renewed battle with cancer and his need to remove himself from board duties to concentrate on his fight.

A long time CUE conference speaker, powerful voice and advocate for the thoughtful use of classroom technology, and a clear thinker in our field, Doug's absence while he devotes all his energy to this battle will be felt by all.

Computer Using Educators (CUE) will collaborate with IDG and Mactivity to present six sessions within the new K12 Educator Market Symposium on Friday, January 13, 2006 at Macworld Conference & Expo in San Fransisco. CUE will provide a host and all presenters in this single room strand for the six sessions during the day.

Do you know a leader? A visionary?

Nominations are due on Dec. 15 for the CUE Board of Directors. Think about who you or your local CUE affiliate might nominate and review the required materials on the nomination home page.

CUE has partnered with the California League of Middle Schools, and California League of High Schools to present a CUE strand of workshops and sessions at the annual CLMS/CLHS Technology Conference in Monterey, to be held from Nov. 18-20, 2005. Among the many reasons CUE has worked to forge this partnership is to provide enhanced opportunities for Northern CUE members. We encourage those CUE members who can attend to join us at this event.

The Conference theme is "Technology Infused Learning - Ed Tech Strategies that Motivate Learners." In support of this theme, CUE is presenting innovative yet practical approaches to be shared with the middle and secondary school attendees. Of the topics to be presented is a panel of successful EETT implementations, and several other relevant topics.

CUE is proud to partner with such respected organizations and looks forward to a successful and engaging conference experience.

ALAMEDA, CA – Computer Using Educators (CUE), a nonprofit educational professional association, has returned from its annual retreat with new officers and enhanced member benefits, resources and services for the 2005-2006 school year.

The newly-elected officers of the CUE Board of Directors are: Scott Smith, President, Chuck Holland, Vice President/Treasurer, Debra White, Secretary. Hall Davidson and Jan Half continue to serve as Members at Large. The new members are Doug Prouty and Sharon Sutton, replacing departing members Harvey Barnett and Katherine Hayden, each of whom served as Board President during their term. CUE will soon be launching several new programs, including a professional development series for educators to support the effective use of technology in the curriculum, a new podcast featuring student voices, a new Special Interest Group focused on the needs of independent, private and parochial schools, a redesigned web site and email newsletter.

Computer-Using Educators (CUE), Inc., is a nonprofit California corporation founded in 1978. CUE's goal is to promote the integration of technology in the classroom in all disciplines and at all educational levels from preschool through college. With an active current membership of thousands of educational professionals, CUE supports 20 regional affiliates and four Special Interest Groups, and presents a statewide educational technology conference each year. CUE is the largest organization of this type in California, and one of the largest in the country.

Computer-Using Educators has successfully lobbied the California Legislature to pass SJR 8; a resolution calling for the full reinstatement of all Federal EETT funding to California schools. Efforts of CUE Advocacy Committee member John Cradler as well as CUE staff and Board Members are in large part responsible for this success. The resolution is currently being chartered and will be sent by the Secretary of the Senate to Congress and the White House shortly.
