Tim is a former K12 teacher who has been a professor of educational technology and teacher educator at California State University, Fullerton since 1999. Five of these years he served as the Director of Distance Education at CSUF. He co-directs an online MS program in Educational Technology program that focuses on helping educators become educational technology change agents by gaining competence in the ISTE-C Standards.
Tim is the author of numerous articles and books, as well as a presenter, on the integration of educational technology, instructional design, and online distance education. His latest books include Security vs. Access: Balancing Safety and Productivity in the Digital School (Robinson, Brown & Green, ISTE), The Essentials of Instructional Design: Connecting Fundamental Principles with Process and Practice (Brown & Green, Pearson), and Making Change: Creating a 21st Century Teaching and Learning Environment (Shell Education)—along with two upcoming books Securing the Connected Classroom: Technology Planning to Keep Students Safe (ISTE) and Building a Personal Learning Network Using Social Media and Other Social Digital Tools (Corwin Press). Tim is passionate about working with schools and districts on visioning and implementing technology initiatives. He regularly consults with and provides professional development to schools and districts throughout the United States and internationally. Tim received his PhD in Instructional Systems Technology and Curriculum and Instruction from Indiana University.
